Student and Alumni Services

Career Development Services (CDS) offers a variety of programs to aid TSPPPA students and alumni in their professional development.  To inquire about any CDS services or set up an appointment, email tscareer@gwu.edu.

Individual Advising Appointments
Paul Binkley and Joan Dudik-Gayoso are available to meet individually with TSPPPA students and alumni who want assistance clarifying career goals, editing resumes and cover letters, exploring networking options, planning their job search strategy, and preparing for compensation negotiation.

Weekly Career Forum
CDS offers a weekly career forum to help students explore career options and develop job search skills.

Presentations and Networking Events
CDS encourages employers and alumni to speak about their organization, the field they are in, and give advice for those interested in what they do. Each semester Career Development Services holds several events that provide opportunities for employers to meet our students and for students to learn about a variety of positions.

Career-Oriented Workshops and Seminars
Throughout the academic year and summer sessions, CDS hosts a number of workshops and seminars designed to train TSPPPA students and alumni on the best career techniques. Past workshop topics have included writing effective resumes and cover letters, successfully negotiating compensation packages, navigating the federal job search, networking, informational interviews, and search strategies for doctoral students.

Mock Interviews and Assessment Preparation
Career Development Services is happy to help prepare students and alumni for upcoming interviews and assessments. Mock interviews are done individually and cover behavioral, functional, and case style interviews. Preparation for such assessments as the Presidential Management Fellows program, the Capitol City Fellows program, and the Foreign Service Written and Oral Assessments are offered on both an individual and group level.

On-Campus Recruiting
Employers visit the campus in the fall and spring semesters each year to conduct interview. Students and alumni (within two semesters following graduation) are eligible to register for the OCR program.

TSPPPA Career Panels
Each semester, CDS puts together panels covering different professional fields, exposing current students and alumni to various career opportunities. Examples of panel topics include careers with the Federal Government, Consulting, and a presentation on the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program by representatives of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Some of the previous panels have drawn from alumni, GW faculty, and professionals currently working in their respective fields.

Employer Recruiting
CDS organizes employer information and recruiting sessions on the GW campus and on-site through our wide network of public, private, and non-profit organizations.  Watch your email and Career Central for information on which employers come to recruit at TSPPPA.
