The Admissions Process

The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences oversees The Trachtenberg School, including the admissions process.

What happens to your application after you submit it?

  • All application materials are received by the Columbian College; they gather the various materials to assemble an application file.
    • Application materials should be sent directly to CCAS.
  • Only complete application files are sent to the Trachtenberg School for review:
    • For fall admission, applications are reviewed pending the January 15 deadline, with the majority of decisions made in February through April.
    • For spring admission, applications are reviewed pending the October 1 deadline for admission.
    • *SPRING 2010 ADMISSIONS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED* Applicants should instead apply for fall 2010 admission.
  • The Admissions Committee then reviews the application and makes a recommendation to the Columbian College (recommend to admit, deny, or wait list).
  • Applications are then returned to the CCAS Admissions Office where final decisions are made.
  • Applicants are advised of the decision online as well as by mailed hard copy. Those admitted will receive a letter informing them of that action and a student reply form with a deadline for response.
  • The review of wait listed applicants for the fall semester typically starts after June 1.

To check the status of your application, please log into your online account.

NOTE: The days immediately preceding application deadlines are the busiest; there may be delays in the mail system impeding the timely receipt of your materials. To avoid this, you can submit materials ahead of the deadline. Application materials are kept on file at the CCAS Admissions Office for one calendar year.

International applicants who are recommended for admission, and who did not submit their financial certificate with their application for admission, will receive a letter stating that the admission decision is contingent upon receipt (by CCAS) of the financial certificate. Once the certificate is received, the official letter of admission and student reply form will be mailed.
